2020 Year In Review

Looking back at 2020 it was an eventful year and didn’t turn out like anyone expected!

At the start of the year, I was continuing my life of not exercising (which I had been doing for many years) and generally just getting more unfit and more unfit. That was about to change; I decided to join the gym!

So the first couple of months of the year I was going to the gym - primarily going on a bike in spin classes. Surprisingly I was enjoying it!

But then COVID hit and I started working from home. Originally I thought this would be only for a few weeks (how wrong was I!).

As I had the exercise bug and still wanted to do something, I decided to try running. I had tried running in the past, mainly on treadmills, and never got into it and never managed to run 5km without walking. Things were not looking good, but I wanted to do something.

So I went on my first run. I managed to run 4.9km without stopping! I was so impressed with myself, I went out again 3 days later and did the same.

That’s how it started. I gradually went further and further (and faster and faster). I quickly change my cheap Nike running shoes for a comfier pair of Nike running shoes. Two months in I ran my first 10km and then at the end of August, I ran my first half-marathon.

To say I was enjoying it was an understatement. So as I’m approaching 40 I was looking for a challenge and the opportunity to run an ultramarathon begore I’m 40 was too good to pass up. In December, I entered an ultramarathon for May 2021!
